When Charles Fend announces the Fend 100 aircraft, the world's first fully autonomous commercial airliner, he is praised for being a pioneer in aviation history. The Fend 100 will bring a new dawn of commercial flying to the world. One where human pilots are replaced by AI machines that will navigate over 100,000 flights per day. The first flight is a celebratory spectacle - the Fend headquarters crowded with news teams, technology lovers, and aviation enthusiasts. The atmosphere is jovial, and everyone is eager to celebrate. Until something goes terribly wrong. The Fend 100 suddenly begins an uncommanded descent over the Atlantic, and neither the engineers on the ground nor the test pilots aboard can override the controls.... But who is responsible? Is it the wealthy ex-KGB agent, Pavel Morozov, who has shown up from a past Charles had long-forgotten? Or was it Charles' son, Max - on the run from the FBI after he was accused of sending Fend Aerospace corporate secrets to a criminal enterprise? And just who is Max Fend? Is he the man that the media makes him out to be - the wild playboy son of an aerospace tycoon? Or is he what the FBI suspects - an international criminal, mixed up in a Russian espionage game? And why is there a top secret personnel file on him that even his FBI investigator isn't allowed to see? Glidepath is a race to uncover the truth, before it comes crashing down from above.... 1. For curiosity seekers of aerospace and structural science, how did it all start? Here is the story of a forgotten stress engineer whose philosophy, calculations, and outspoken opinions saved many lives. Greatest Generation story lovers, World War II hounds, and family members caring for aging parents think of Mister B as a national treasure. When a relative inserts herself into the physicist's personal space, the old man decides to teach his new helper some life lessons of his own, specifically that his newest design is to live forever. A real-time memoir with a caregiver, Mr. B causes unsuspecting listeners to become mindful of things that matter in many shades of life. As this materials analyst steps into a stress manufacturing field, his story encompasses his part in WWII and the cold war race to the moon against Russian flights. Joseph Byk stress tests reconnaissance planes and helped to design structural aspects of the space shuttle Gemini, the first moon landing gear, and the beginnings of Google Earth. 1. Operation Paperclip: The History of the Secret ...

After the last shots of World War II were fired and the process of rebuilding Germany and Europe began, the Western Allies and the Soviet Union each tried to obtain the services of the Third Reich's leading scientists, especially those involved in rocketry, missile technology, and aerospace research. Naturally, this was a delicate affair due to the fact many of the German scientists were not only active Nazis but had helped the Nazi war machine terrorize the world. At the same time, by the late war period, the Anglo-American Allies formed a clear picture of the Soviet state. Though forced to ally with the USSR's dictator, Josef Stalin, the West came to understand Communist Russia represented yet another hungry totalitarian power, and thus a very real threat to an independent Europe. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill realized the menacing character of the Soviets from the Katyn Forest Massacre of Polish army officers, if not before, while the Americans only gradually shed a naïve assumption of continued Russian friendliness after the war. For their part, the Soviets retained ruthless imperial ambitions which manifested in various ways. They allied with Hitler for a time in 1939 to 1941, planning to divide Eastern Europe between their two expansionist states. They devastated the Ukrainian population with the Holomodor, an engineered, genocidal famine which claimed perhaps 3 million victims. The Soviet refusal to evacuate Eastern Europe following the war, instead retaining many formerly democratic countries as vassal states, spoke volumes about their intentions.  1. Language: English. Though forced to ally with the USSR's dictator, the West came to understand Communist Russia represented yet another hungry totalitarian power, and thus a very real threat to an independent Europe. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill realized the menacing character of the Soviets from the Katyn Forest Massacre of Polish army officers, if not before, while the Americans only gradually shed a naïve assumption of continued Russian friendliness after the war. The Western approach, however self-interested, typically met with voluntary compliance on the German scientists' parts. In contrast, the Soviet answer to Paperclip, Operation Osoaviakhim, used the implied threat of imprisonment, torture, and death, the characteristic tools of Stalinist Russia, to coerce assistance from German scientists and engineers following the war. These men yielded rich dividends to the Soviet state in terms of achieving at least temporary technical parity with the USSR's western rivals. To say these operations had a profound impact on the Cold War and American history would be an understatement. The most well-known example of Operation Paperclip’s “success” was Wernher von Braun, who was once a member of a branch of the SS involved in the Holocaust before becoming known as the “father of rocket science” and fascinating the world with visions of winged rockets and space stations as a “new” Manhattan P 1.
